Right Angle Cross of Rulership: Incarnation Cross Meaning

5 min read
An equal-armed cross of four glowing points on a faint mandala wheel, a faint crown-like arc resting above the topmost point.

Four gates, four partners that never appear: gates 21, 12, 64 and 44 would each complete a channel with a gate of the Right Angle Cross of Rulership, and none of them is in the cross. The cross itself is gate 22, Openness, gate 47, Realization, gate 26, the Egoist, and gate 45, the Gatherer. Between them they touch the Solar Plexus, the Ajna, the Heart and the Throat, and no centre is defined by the cross alone. As a life theme it can be read as a question about who speaks for a group and on whose behalf. That is interpretation, and a person may relate to it differently.

Voice and will on one axis

Gate 45, the Gatherer, is a Throat gate. Gate 26, the Egoist, is a Heart gate. They are opposites on the wheel, so a Sun and Earth pair always holds one of each. Neither partner gate is in the cross, so the pair defines no centre by itself.

Rulership 2 begins in the Throat, with the Sun in gate 45, and Rulership 4 begins in the Heart, with the Sun in gate 26. In those two the Sun itself sits in the voice-and-will pair, and the thoughtful pair of 22 and 47 sits in the Design.

One way to see the pairing is that the Throat is where a person speaks and the Heart is where willpower is described. Put together, the axis asks what is worth saying and what is worth committing to. Of the four, gate 45 gives the cross its voice and gate 26 gives it its will, as one reading.

Realization and openness as the thoughtful axis

Gate 47, Realization, is an Ajna gate. Gate 22, Openness, is a Solar Plexus gate. They are opposites too. The pair joins the Ajna, the centre of thought, to the Solar Plexus, the emotional centre.

The Sun reaches this pair in two variants: Rulership begins in gate 22 and Rulership 3 in gate 47. The Sun and Earth are always wheel opposites, so gate 22 faces gate 47 and the two share the conscious side in both.

As interpretation, the axis is about making sense of experience, and about staying receptive to feelings while doing it. It is a quieter axis than the first, and the cross can read as a conversation between the two: one pair focused on authority and speech, the other on understanding and openness.

The conscious seat: speech or thought

The Personality Sun gate keys the variant. In Rulership (22/47 | 26/45) the Sun is in gate 22, about March 7 to 13, and in Rulership 3 (47/22 | 45/26) it is in gate 47, about September 9 to 15. In both, the thoughtful pair of 22 and 47 is conscious and the voice-and-will pair is the Design.

In Rulership 2 (45/26 | 22/47) the Sun is in gate 45, about June 7 to 13, and in Rulership 4 (26/45 | 47/22) it is in gate 26, about December 9 to 14. There the voice-and-will pair is conscious and the thoughtful pair sits beneath it. These dates can vary by about a day from one year to the next, and a birthday in one of them points toward a cross without proving it.

The Design side mirrors this: Rulership holds 26/45, Rulership 2 holds 22/47, Rulership 3 holds 45/26 and Rulership 4 holds 47/22. Whichever pair is conscious, the other always sits beneath it.

Four gates, four partners

Each gate reaches for a partner that the cross leaves out. Gate 45 pairs with 21 in the channel Money, gate 26 with 44 in Surrender, gate 47 with 64 in Abstraction and gate 22 with 12 in Openness. None of those partners is among the four, which is why the cross touches four centres without defining any of them.

Each partner would link a different pair of centres. Money, 21-45, would join the Heart to the Throat, and Surrender, 26-44, the Heart to the Spleen. Abstraction, 47-64, would join the Ajna to the Head, and Openness, 12-22, the Throat to the Solar Plexus.

Rulership in a chart with open centres

Whether a chart completes any of those channels is answered by the full bodygraph. Someone with Rulership could have every one of those centres open, and the cross would still read as a theme about voice, will and understanding.

What the gate names say about ruling

Rulership can suggest power over others, but the gate names point elsewhere: Openness, Realization, the Egoist and the Gatherer speak of feeling, thought, will and speech. A gentler reading is rulership of oneself, the ability to speak for one's own view and to hold one's own will steady. The Right Angle is described as personal destiny, with profiles 1/3 through 4/6.

Each Rulership axis is a wheel opposite: gate 47 faces gate 22, and gate 45 faces gate 26.

Frequently Asked Questions

What role does the Throat play in this cross?

Gate 45, the Gatherer, is the cross's Throat gate, and it takes the Sun or Earth position in every variant. It points to speech and the gathering of what a group needs. Gate 45 alone does not define the Throat, since that needs a full channel, but it gives the theme a voice.

Does Rulership 2 begin with the Sun in gate 45?

Rulership 2, written 45/26 | 22/47, has the Personality Sun in gate 45, the Gatherer, about June 7 to 13. The Earth is in gate 26. Other crosses also begin in gate 45, so the Design Sun and Earth must match before the cross is confirmed by a calculated chart.

Will I find Rulership if I was born in March?

Possibly, though a birth in the window of about March 7 to 13 only places the Personality Sun in gate 22. Other crosses can also begin in gate 22, with different Earth and Design gates. Only a calculated chart that uses your exact birth time and place can show whether yours is Rulership.

Is the cross about ruling other people?

That is one possible reading of the name, but nothing in the gates demands it. The four gate names are Openness, Realization, the Egoist and the Gatherer, which point to speech, thought, will and feeling. A gentler reading is rulership over one's own voice and decisions.
