Left Angle Cross of Revolution: Incarnation Cross Meaning

Right Angle crosses describe a destiny that belongs mostly to you; Left Angle crosses describe one that works out through other people. The Left Angle Cross of Revolution is a clean example, because it has only two variants rather than four, and both belong to a small group of profiles. Human Design calls this transpersonal karma. It does not mean the theme is vague or impersonal. It means the cross is described as unfolding in relation to others, and Revolution's gates give that idea a specific cast: principles and formulation on the conscious side, power skills and contribution beneath.
Left Angle: a theme that runs through other people
In Human Design the three angles describe how a cross relates to the self. A Right Angle is personal destiny, a Juxtaposition is fixed fate, and a Left Angle is transpersonal karma. The word karma here is the system's own label for a life theme that is not mainly about private development. Where a Right Angle life is described as turning on your own direction, a Left Angle life is described as turning on how you meet, serve or change the people around you.
Left Angle crosses go with profiles 5/1, 5/2, 6/2 and 6/3, so Revolution is open only to those four. Right Angle crosses go with 1/3 through 4/6, and 4/1 alone carries a Juxtaposition cross. The angle is a claim of the Human Design framework, and it works best as a lens for reflection, not a forecast.
Principles and Formulization on the conscious side
The first variant is written 49/4 | 14/8. The Personality Sun is in gate 49, Principles, which belongs to the Solar Plexus, and the Personality Earth is in gate 4, Formulization, which belongs to the Ajna. The Sun is in gate 49 from about February 7 to 13, in Aquarius. The second variant, 4/49 | 8/14, swaps them, so the Sun is in Formulization from about August 11 to 17, in Leo, and the Earth in Principles.
Those windows can vary by about a day from one year to the next. The Sun position is a first clue and not proof, since gates 49 and 4 also appear in other crosses, and the whole quartet has to match.
On the Design side the first variant holds 14/8 and the second holds 8/14, so the Sacral and Throat gates trade the Sun and Earth seats just as the conscious pair does.
A Design pair shared with Contagion
Underneath, both variants carry gates 14 and 8: Power Skills in the Sacral and Contribution in the Throat. Gate 14 is one end of the channel 2-14, Beat, and gate 8 is one end of 1-8, Inspiration. Neither partner is in the cross. The Right Angle Cross of Contagion holds the same two gates, so the two crosses can be read side by side. The difference is the Personality pair and the angle, not the Design.
Where a Right Angle name spans four quarters of the wheel, Revolution spans two: the Sun in gate 49 or the Sun in gate 4, and nothing in between.
Gate 49's hexagram is also called Revolution
The name matches the I Ching title of gate 49, whose hexagram is Revolution. This page does not claim the cross was named for it, only that the two share the word. Gate 49 holds the Personality Sun in the first variant and the Personality Earth in the second.
Gate 4, Formulization, carries the hexagram Youthful Folly, so the two conscious gates have different hexagram names. Only gate 49 shares its name with the cross.
The channels gates 4 and 49 reach for
Gate 4, Formulization, is one end of the channel 4-63, Logic, and its partner is gate 63, Doubt, a Head gate. Gate 49, Principles, is one end of 19-49, Synthesis, and its partner is gate 19. Neither partner is in Revolution, so the conscious pair defines no centre on its own. A chart that supplies gate 63 or gate 19 elsewhere completes the channel.
The Design pair has partners of its own: gate 14 would pair with gate 2 and gate 8 with gate 1, and both of those are G-centre gates. Logic joins the Ajna to the Head, Synthesis joins the Root to the Solar Plexus, Beat joins the G centre to the Sacral and Inspiration joins the G centre to the Throat.
What a transpersonal theme asks of a person
As a way of reflecting, one reading is that the question a Left Angle cross raises is who the theme is for. The work of Revolution may then show up in how a person holds principles and turns them into structure that others can use, rather than in how it pleases them privately. That reading is interpretive, and the chart as a whole, not one cross, shapes any real life.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Revolution limited to two variants?
Human Design gives each Left Angle name two variants, against four for a Right Angle, and Left Angle crosses go with the profiles 5/1, 5/2, 6/2 and 6/3. For Revolution those are 49/4 | 14/8 and 4/49 | 8/14, with the Personality Sun in gate 49 or gate 4.
In which profiles does Revolution appear?
Revolution can appear with 5/1, 5/2, 6/2 or 6/3, the profiles that carry a Left Angle cross. It cannot appear with 1/3 to 4/6, which belong to Right Angle crosses, or with 4/1, which belongs to Juxtaposition. Check your profile on the bodygraph and read the matching profile page alongside the cross.
Do people with Revolution share the same Design as Contagion?
The Design pair, gates 14 and 8, is shared with the first and third variants of the Right Angle Cross of Contagion. The Personality side is different, and the angle is different, so the two crosses are not the same theme. They can be read side by side, but a chart carries only one cross.
What tends to separate a Left Angle reading from a Right Angle one?
Human Design frames a Right Angle as personal destiny and a Left Angle as transpersonal karma. In practice the difference is one of emphasis: the theme is described as running through your own direction in the first case and through your dealings with other people in the second. Treat it as a lens for reflection, not a prediction.
